Light Pollution

  • Date: September 27, 2025 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Join the Friends of LLELA for their September Lecture Series: Shedding Light on Light Pollution: Strategies for Conservation of Nature at Night

Guest speaker is Dr. Karen McGraw with Dark Sky Texas. Her presentations are engaging, interactive, and illuminating.

“DarkSky Texas promotes the use of better lighting to help restore our view of the nighttime sky, improve the safety and well-being of people and wildlife, and save energy. DarkSky Texas is the official Texas chapter of DarkSky International, a global authority on light pollution reduction. Their mission is to protect Texas's night skies by educating the public, advocating for responsible lighting policies, and implementing solutions to reduce light polution, which harms wildlife, wastes energy, and diminishes the view of the stars. They work with communities, businesses, and individuals through initiatives like the Be A Star Award  program and the Bold Initiative, and they celebrate communities that become International Dark Sky Places. ”
