L.L. Woods Park is 28.1 acre park located at 1000 Arbour Way. The namesake for this park is a distinguished man, Lenard Levosha Woods, or LL Woods, Lewisville, Texas' first African-American City Council member. M. Kaser & Associates, Inc. worked with City staff to tell Lenard's story and created an outdoor display so all park visitors would know Lenard's legacy. The printed finished display presents many family photos, official City news, and a timeline of Lenard's life from 1920 to his death in 1973.

L.L. Woods Park is 31 acres adjacent to the north side of Prairie Creek with a multitude of amenities.

Lenard Woods Story:

LLWoods Final - flattened layers

Elected in 1973, Mr. Lewis was the first African American on the City Council, one of the five officials who, along with the Mayor, set the laws and regulations that govern the City of Lewisville.

L. L. Woods was born in Speer, Oklahoma on June 11, 1920, only five years before Lewisville was chartered. He attended Boley High School in Oklahoma, going on to earn a degree from Langston University, the only historically black college in the state.

Woods’ attendance at Paul Quinn College, another historically black college affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, brought him to north Texas. Continuing to further his education, he would also go on to study at the Sherman Theology Training Center, and the Southern Bible Institute.

Lenard Woods was many things besides a civil servant: he was steward at the Simms Chapel AME Church in Carrollton, president of the PTA, leader of a local Boy Scout troop, and an active Mason. His accomplishments and contributions are a matter of record, but what he is best remembered for is the way he touched people’s lives, especially young people. For them, he provided a living example of leadership and service.

"What ever you do, be the best at doing it. --LL Woods
